Bastille celebrations attracted around 160 to the Laperouse Monument and Museum. The event was sponsored by The Friends in association with the Australian Association of French North Africa’s War Veterans and Randwick City Council. The Hon Don Harwin, Leader of the House of Representatives, Ms Sylvia Galvao, Acting Consul-General and Mayor Scott Nash gave speeches at the monument. This was followed by the traditional laying of wreaths and guests were then treated to a banquet provided by the French North Africa’s War Veterans. An invitation is extended to share in the occasion of La Fête Nationale (Bastille Day) to be held at the Laperouse Monument at 10.30 am on Saturday, 14th July, 2012.
This year the commemoration will be hosted by the Friends and followed by refreshments at the Laperouse Museum generously catered for by The Association of the French North African Veterans.
This will also provide an opportunity to visit or revisit the Laperouse Museum, the Laperouse Monument and the Père Receveur Grave.
The President of the NSW Legislative Council the Hon Don Harwin MLC Patron of The Friends, the Mayor Councillor Scott Nash and the Consul for France will lay wreaths and present short addresses. .
Senator the Hon Bob Carr; the Hon Michael Daley MP; The Hon Peter Garret MP and the Consul for France have also been invited.

It was a very successful National Trust Heritage Festival with the Friends providing refreshments for visitors to the Museum throughout the day.

Pictured left are visitors who took the special Friends tour which included stories about the first colonial artwork produced in Australia, the first Observatory, first Garden, first mail, first wooden boat building, first geological observations, first scientist buried here and the first telecommunications connection for New Zealand.

HERITAGE FESTIVAL AT LA PEROUSE 15th April 10am - 4pm

Free Tour of Laperouse Monuments and sites starts at 10.30. Meet on the verandah of the Laperouse Museum. Morning Tea provided by Friends of the Laperouse Museum at 11.30 on the verandah. No Booking required.

Bare Island Open Day: Join the National Parks and Wildlife Service in celebrating the history and early innovation of this unique fortification. The day will include re-enactments of musket and cannon firing and amazing stories from the Corps of Marines. Other displays include the Randwick Historical Society and the Telstra museum Morsecodians who demonstrate their trade and tell how this invention brought the world closer together. The day will include self guided tours of the fort and more…

Adults: $10 Concession and children (5-15 years): $8.00 Children under 5 are free of charge. The ticket price includes all activities and free entry to the Laperouse Museum (valid for day of purchase only). For more information on this event phone: 9253 0888 or email [email protected]

La Perouse Day Celebrations were jointly hosted by the Mayor of Randwick City Council, Clr Scott Nash and Friends of the Laperouse Museum. There were around 70 guests including local MP Michael Daley, the Hon Catherine Cusack, and artist Pamela Griffiths.
